51 games. One champion. Everything you need to know about the 2026 American Football League Europe schedule

The American Football League Europe has officially released the full framework for the 2026 season. A total of 51 games will be played across 16 weeks, featuring 8 teams with one ultimate goal: winning the championship.

The season promises competitive matchups, a clear structure, and a strong focus on player welfare.

Season overview

The 2026 season includes 51 total games and runs across 16 weeks. Each of the eight teams will play 12 regular season games.

The league is divided into two conferences with four teams each. Every team will face all conference opponents twice, once at home and once away. In addition, each franchise will play every team from the opposite conference at least once.

All games will be played on weekends, either Saturday or Sunday. There will be no weekday games during the regular season.

To support player welfare, every team will have two bye weeks during the season. In addition, there will be one general bye week for the entire league.

Regular season format

Within the conference, each team faces three opponents home and away, resulting in six conference games.

In inter-conference play, every team plays each opponent from the other conference at least once, adding six more games.

This creates a total of 12 regular season games per franchise.

Up to four games can take place each weekend, ensuring consistent and balanced scheduling throughout the season.

The AFLE Final will be played on September 6.

Playoff structure

Only four of the eight teams will advance to the playoffs.

The postseason consists of two semifinal games and one championship game.

The two conference winners will earn the number one seeds and will host the semifinals. Each number one seed will face the number two seed from the opposite conference.

The playoffs follow a single-elimination format. One loss ends the season. Two wins separate a team from the championship title.

Conference tiebreaker rules

If teams are tied within a conference, the following tiebreaker steps apply:

  1. Win percentage
  2. Head-to-head win percentage
  3. Win percentage within the conference
  4. Strength of Victory (SoV)
  5. Strength of Schedule (SoS)
  6. Points difference in head-to-head games
  7. Points scored away in head-to-head games
  8. Best net points in all games, capped at 35 points per game
  9. Best total points in all games, capped at 35 points per game
  10. Best net touchdowns in all games
  11. Best points scored in away games
  12. Coin toss

If two clubs remain tied after one or more clubs are eliminated at any step, the tiebreaker restarts at step one.

For three-way ties, the conference tiebreaker is applied first to eliminate all but the highest ranked club per conference. The remaining two teams are then compared using the standard two-team procedure.
