Alpine Rams sign former NFL tight end Jared Scott following Devan Burrell injury

The Alpine Rams have moved quickly to address the injury to wide receiver Devan Burrell, signing former NFL tight end Jared Scott ahead of their upcoming clash with the Vienna Vikings. Scott brings a remarkable and varied background to the Swiss franchise and becomes the only American tight end in the entire AFLE.

A college career with an NFL connection

Scott’s college journey took him across three programs, beginning at the University of Wyoming where he lined up alongside current Buffalo Bills star and NFL All-Pro quarterback Josh Allen. He caught two touchdowns from Allen during their time together, including one that was named an ESPN Top-10 play at the 2017 Idaho Potato Bowl. He later moved to Prairie View A&M University before completing his college career at Idaho State University, where he earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention honors in 2021 and delivered a key touchdown in an FCS Quarterfinal playoff game in 2020.

A multisport athlete with professional pedigree

Scott’s athleticism extends beyond football. He also competed as a Division I basketball player in 2019 and 2020, recording points and rebounds in collegiate regular season games. On the football field, he led the SWAC conference in yards per catch in 2019 with an average of 23.8, including a 100-yard two-touchdown game that season.

From the NFL to the AFLE

After college, Scott signed with the Carolina Panthers following a successful rookie minicamp in 2022 before spending time on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad the same year. He was selected in the first round of the 2024 UFL Draft and started for the USFL Breakers in 2023, continuing to gain professional experience at every level. Most recently he transitioned into coaching, serving as offensive quality control and assistant wide receivers coach at Utah in 2025, helping the program to an impressive 11-2 record.

The right man at the right time

With Burrell sidelined, the Alpine Rams have turned to one of the most experienced and versatile players available. Scott’s combination of NFL experience, professional football background and coaching insight makes him an ideal addition for a team facing one of the toughest challenges of their season in the Vienna Vikings.
