Berlin Thunder add former NFL player Michael Sam to Coaching Staff

The Berlin Thunder continue to build their coaching staff for their first season in the American Football League Europe. With the addition of Michael Sam, the franchise brings in a former NFL player who has competed at the highest level of the sport.

Experience from the NFL Draft to International Football

Michael Sam entered the 2014 NFL Draft and was selected in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams. During the preseason, he impressed with three sacks and showed strong potential. However, he did not secure a spot on the final 53-man roster.

In 2015, Sam continued his professional career in the Canadian Football League, gaining further experience at the professional level.

Familiar with European Football

Michael Sam is not new to European football. In 2022, he joined the Barcelona Dragons. Originally signed as a defensive line coach, he also contributed on the field during the season. This experience gave him valuable insight into the European game and its structures.

Strengthening the Thunder Staff

With Michael Sam joining the coaching staff, the Berlin Thunder add international experience and top-level football knowledge to their organisation. His background as a professional player and his understanding of European football make him a valuable addition as the team prepares for its debut season in the American Football League Europe.

The Thunder continue to focus on building a competitive and professional structure ahead of the 2026 season.
