Berlin Thunder Bounce Back With Scrappy Win Over Alpine Rams
A chaotic afternoon in the books, but Berlin leave with their first win.
Final Score: Berlin Thunder at Alpine Rams – 24:14
Nothing Goes to Plan Before Kickoff
The day started badly for everyone involved. Technical issues on site pushed kickoff back by more than two hours, from 16:10 all the way to 18:15. By the time the ball was in the air, both teams had been waiting around far longer than ideal, and it showed. The first quarter passed without a single point on the board and with flags flying constantly. Between both teams, over 240 penalty yards were called on the day, making for a stop-start and at times frustrating watch.
Thunder Find Their Footing in the Second
When the Thunder offense clicked into gear in the second quarter, it clicked properly. Berlin rattled off 17 unanswered points and took a lead that always felt within their control. A big part of that was an improved offensive line, which looked considerably sharper than it did in the Week 1 loss to the Vikings. With more time and space to operate, Jakeb Sullivan distributed the ball to six different receivers and finished with three passing touchdowns.
Cunningham Keeps the Rams Alive
The Alpine Rams were not without their moments. Quarterback Gabriel Cunningham caused real problems with his mobility, picking up two rushing touchdowns and giving Berlin’s defense something to think about. The Rams‘ conversion rate on third down told its own story though: just 2 of 10, compared to Berlin’s 7 of 16. When it came to the moments that matter, the Thunder were simply the more composed side.
What’s Next
Berlin head into Week 3 with confidence restored. The Alpine Rams remain winless and will be looking to change that next weekend.
