Canadian defensive back Kosi Onyeka joins Berlin Thunder

Berlin Thunder have filled their international roster spot with the signing of Canadian defensive back Kosi Onyeka. The Canadian defender will join American defensive back Will Johnson to form a strong and physical secondary for the Thunder.

With experience from Canadian college football and the Canadian Football League, Onyeka brings valuable professional experience to the team.

College career at Guelph

Onyeka played college football for the Guelph Gryphons from 2017 to 2021. During that time, he appeared in 25 games and developed into a reliable defender in the secondary.

Over his college career, he recorded 64 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, and three pass breakups. His performances helped him gain attention from professional teams.

Professional experience in the CFL

After his college career, Onyeka signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League in 2022. He made his professional debut during the 2022 season and appeared in several games while contributing on defense and special teams.

Over the following seasons, he remained part of the Roughriders organization and gained valuable experience at the professional level. During his time with the team, he appeared in multiple regular season games and became a regular contributor on special teams.

A new chapter in Berlin

Now Onyeka begins a new chapter in Europe with Berlin Thunder. With his athleticism and professional experience, he is expected to play an important role in the Thunder secondary.

Together with Will Johnson, he will help strengthen the defensive backfield as Berlin prepares for the American Football League Europe season.
