Jon Cole and Mike Harley Jr. have never played against each other this season. But week after week, they are competing in one of the most compelling individual battles the AFLE has produced. Both had three-touchdown games in Week 9. The race is as close as it has ever been.
Another week, another statement from Cole
Jon Cole does things with the ball in his hands that most receivers in this league simply cannot replicate. Against the Alpine Rams in Week 9, the Berlin Thunder wide receiver caught eight passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns, another performance built on explosiveness and the kind of yards after catch that turn ordinary completions into major gains. His ability to create after the reception makes him genuinely dangerous on every single touch, and his connection with Jakeb Sullivan continues to look like one of the best quarterback-receiver partnerships in the league. After nine weeks, Cole sits at 912 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on the season.
The Wang to Harley masterclass
If Cole is the most explosive receiver in the league, Harley Jr. makes the argument for being the most reliable. The Panthers Wroclaw wide receiver is Jameson Wang’s first, second and sometimes third option on any given play, and Week 9 was another reminder of why. Eleven catches for 155 yards and three touchdowns against Firenze Red Lions was another complete performance from a player who shows up every single week. His catch rate, his ability to find space in tight coverage and his production in the end zone make him as valuable a weapon as any receiver in AFLE. He now sits at 774 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season.
Tied on touchdowns, separated by yards
Twelve receiving touchdowns each. That is where both players stand after nine weeks of football. Cole holds the edge in receiving yards, but the gap has narrowed as the season has gone on and Harley Jr. continues to add to his total every week. Both are pulling clear of the rest of the league in terms of end zone production, and neither shows any sign of slowing down.
Five weeks to settle it
With five weeks of regular season football still to play, plus the playoffs and potentially the Gold Bowl, there is plenty of time for this battle to swing in either direction. Cole’s explosiveness gives him the potential for huge individual performances in any given game. Harley Jr.’s consistency means he rarely has a quiet week.
Both players are also central to something bigger than individual statistics. Berlin Thunder are fighting for the fourth playoff spot and Sullivan needs Cole at his best in every remaining game. Panthers Wroclaw are already heading to the playoffs but will want to arrive there in the best possible shape, and Harley Jr. is a big part of what makes their offense so difficult to stop. The individual race and the team stakes are moving in the same direction for both of them.
Whoever ends the regular season with more yards, more touchdowns and the stronger claim to being the best receiver in the AFLE, the contest between Cole and Harley Jr. will be one of the defining stories of the 2026 season.
