David Shelton Sr named first head coach in Paris Lights history

The Paris Lights have made the first major signing in franchise history by appointing David Shelton Sr as their head coach. With this decision, the French organization takes an important step in building its structure for the upcoming season.

Shelton brings experience as both a former player and a coach at different levels of football in the United States and Europe.

From player to coach

Before starting his coaching career, Shelton played as a safety at City College of San Francisco and later at Fresno State. He also spent time in the Canadian Football League with Edmonton.

After his playing career, he moved into coaching and began working with the Pacifica Outlaws, a semi-professional team, where he coached the secondary. He later worked at Justin-Siena High School in Napa, where he was part of a program that won a national championship. Shelton also gained experience coaching at Santa Barbara City College.

Coaching experience in Europe

Shelton has already worked in European football in recent years. In 2023, he served as offensive coordinator of the Leipzig Kings. In 2024, he was appointed head coach of the Barcelona Dragons, gaining further experience leading a professional team in Europe.

Now, he takes on a new challenge in France as he becomes the first head coach in the history of the Paris Lights.

Building the Lights from day one

As the first head coach of the Paris Lights, Shelton will be responsible for building the team’s identity and culture from the ground up. His international experience and leadership background are expected to help guide the franchise into its first season.

With David Shelton Sr on the sideline, the Paris Lights begin their journey with an experienced leader at the helm.
