Firenze Red Lions sign Italian national team wide receiver Matteo Mozzanica
The Firenze Red Lions have added another homegrown wide receiver to their roster, signing Italian national team player Matteo Mozzanica. The 25-year-old from Varese brings an impressive track record and international experience to the Red Lions‘ receiving corps.
A strong foundation in Italian football
Mozzanica built his reputation with his hometown Varese Skorpions, where he quickly established himself as one of the most productive receivers in Italian football. In 2022 he caught 19 passes for 372 yards and five touchdowns in five games, helping the Skorpions win the Italian Division 2 championship and earn promotion to the top league. The following season he continued that form, recording 20 catches for a team-high 327 yards and four touchdowns before making his move to the Milano Seamen, where he added three catches for 52 yards in two appearances.
Representing Italy on the international stage
Mozzanica has also represented Team Italy at the IFAF World Flag Football Championships in Lahti, Finland, underlining his status as one of the country’s top receivers and adding an international dimension to his already impressive resume.
A productive season in Sweden
In 2025 Mozzanica headed to Sweden to play for the Carlstad Crusaders, where he recorded 21 receptions for 234 yards and four touchdowns across eight games, showing that his ability to produce consistently had not diminished.
With Mozzanica now on board, the Firenze Red Lions add a proven and versatile receiver with national team pedigree to their roster ahead of the 2026 season.
