Former Bravos defensive back Pablo Araya signs with the Vienna Vikings

The Vienna Vikings have found their next defensive addition, signing Spanish defensive back Pablo Araya. Araya becomes the first of up to three Madrid Bravos players the Vikings can sign as homegrown players thanks to the Spanish solidarity rule, further strengthening what is already one of the most talented defensive backfields in the league.

From the Bravos to Vienna

Araya spent the last two seasons with the Madrid Bravos and would have continued there in 2026 had the club not withdrawn from competition. With the Bravos no longer active, the Spanish defensive back became a free agent and the Vikings moved quickly to secure his signature. Before his time in Europe, Araya also gained valuable experience on the other side of the Atlantic, spending time at Golden West College and Colorado Mesa University in the United States.

The right fit at the right time

For Araya, the decision to join Vienna was straightforward. It was the defensive quality and the culture the Vikings have built over the years that convinced him to sign. He arrives with clear ambitions for the season ahead, looking to bring a championship back to Vienna while giving the fans an unforgettable show along the way.

Embracing the import life

Beyond football, Araya is also looking forward to experiencing everything Vienna has to offer, from its culture and traditions to the people and the city itself. Having enjoyed some of his best years in a college environment, he is excited to embrace the import lifestyle once again. „Import life can be very similar to a college football lifestyle and I had some of my best years there, being around the guys all day and just having fun playing ball,“ he said.

With Araya now on board, the Vienna Vikings continue to build a deep and dangerous defensive unit as they prepare for the 2026 season.
