Former New York Jets offensive lineman Leander Wiegand returns to Rhein Fire

Rhein Fire continue strengthening their roster and have welcomed back a familiar face to the team. Offensive lineman Leander Wiegand returns to the franchise after spending the previous season in the National Football League (NFL) with the New York Jets.

Wiegand already played for Rhein Fire during the 2023 season and was an important part of the offensive line. Now he returns to Germany with valuable experience from one of the highest levels of football in the world.

NFL experience through the International Player Pathway

During the 2025 season, Wiegand joined the New York Jets as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. After impressing scouts during the program’s Pro Day, the Jets signed him to their practice squad.

The opportunity allowed Wiegand to train and work within an NFL organization for a full season, gaining valuable experience and development against top-level competition.

Strength and experience for the Fire offensive line

Wiegand brings everything teams look for in a top offensive lineman. With his strong physical size, athletic ability, and now a year of training at the highest level of football, he adds significant quality to the Rhein Fire offensive line.

The Fire offensive line has been one of the team’s strengths in recent seasons, and with Wiegand returning to the roster, the unit once again has the potential to become one of the best groups in the league.

As Rhein Fire prepare for the 2026 season, the return of Leander Wiegand gives the offense another powerful piece in the trenches.
