French defensive lineman Yoann Miangué signs with the Alpine Rams
The Alpine Rams have strengthened their defensive line following Week 1, signing French defensive lineman Yoann Miangué. The 27-year-old brings one of the most unique and compelling backgrounds of any player in the AFLE to the Swiss franchise.
From taekwondo to the defensive line
What makes Miangué truly stand out is his path to American football. Before putting on shoulder pads, he represented France in taekwondo at national level. That martial arts background has shaped his game in ways that are immediately visible on the field: balance, agility, mastery of contact and technical discipline. Combined with his imposing size of 6’5″ and 310 pounds, those qualities give him a rare blend of power and mobility that makes him a handful for any offensive lineman.
A rising star at Université Laval
Miangué arrived at the Université Laval Rouge et Or in 2023 and quickly established himself as one of the most promising defensive linemen in the Canadian university circuit. Over three seasons and 22 games he recorded 26.5 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, numbers that reflect consistent development in one of the most demanding defensive programs in Canadian university football. In his most recent season he appeared in eight games, recording 12.5 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.
CFL pedigree
Miangué’s performances at Laval attracted professional attention, earning him a contract with the Ottawa Rouge et Noir of the Canadian Football League. That recognition speaks to the level he has already reached and the potential that scouts across North America have identified in him.
A unique addition to the Rams
At the Alpine Rams, Miangué joins a defensive line that is still finding its feet in the AFLE’s inaugural season. His combination of athleticism, technical skill and professional experience makes him an exciting addition and a player who could make an immediate impact on the Rams‘ defense.
