Homegrown star Florian Bierbaumer returns to the Vienna Vikings
The Vienna Vikings have secured another exciting piece for their offense, with the return of Austrian tight end Florian Bierbaumer. The 27-year-old is back in familiar surroundings after a stint in the United States that brought him to the doorstep of professional football.
A UFL draft pick returns home
Bierbaumer made headlines earlier in 2026 when he was selected by the Louisville Kings in the UFL International Draft, a testament to the impression he made at the UFL International Combine. However, after a strong showing in the preseason he was released before the season began, opening the door for a return to the club where he built his reputation.
Four years of consistent excellence
Bierbaumer spent the previous four seasons with the Vienna Vikings and was one of the most reliable targets in European football during that time. Across 38 games he recorded 123 receptions for 1,731 yards and 26 touchdowns, remarkable numbers that underline his importance to the Viking offense over the years. For his quarterbacks he was always a safe and dependable option, capable of making the big catch when it mattered most.
A luxury problem at receiver
With Bierbaumer back in the fold, the Vikings are facing a welcome selection headache at the receiver positions. Homegrown wide receivers Yannick Mayr, Noah Touré and Philipp Haun, along with American Darrell Stewart Jr., already give quarterback Ben Holmes four explosive options in the passing game. Add to that the presence of former Arizona Cardinals tight end Bernhard Seikovits and now Bierbaumer at tight end, and the Vikings have built one of the deepest and most talented passing offenses in the league.
With Bierbaumer back where it all started, the Vienna Vikings are shaping up to be one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the AFLE ahead of the 2026 season.
