Kenji Bahar named AFLE Week 2 MVP
Rhein Fire quarterback Kenji Bahar has been named the AFLE Week 2 MVP after a dominant performance in the Fire’s season opener against the London Warriors. Bahar stepped onto the AFLE stage for the first time and immediately showed why Rhein Fire brought him in to lead their offense.
A complete performance from the start
Bahar finished the game with 222 passing yards, a 71.43 completion percentage, three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown, good for a passer rating of 145.2. With momentum building from early in the first quarter, he connected repeatedly with wide receivers Harlan Kwofie and Kaylon Geiger Sr., delivering big play after big play to stretch Rhein Fire’s lead and put the game beyond doubt long before the final whistle.
Part of a dominant team effort
Bahar’s performance did not happen in isolation. German linebacker Marius Kensy was equally impressive, recording a safety, an interception, a pass deflection, a tackle for loss and nine total tackles in a complete individual display. Together, the two performances summed up everything Rhein Fire did well on the day as the Fire ran out 43-7 winners.
Edging out Ben Holmes
Bahar claimed the Week 2 award ahead of Vienna Vikings quarterback Ben Holmes in what turned out to be a quarterback duel in the voting booth as much as it will be on the field. The two signal callers are set to face each other in Week 3, giving the rivalry an extra layer of intrigue. If their MVP nominations are anything to go by, that matchup is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of the season.
