London’s ground game arrives at just the right time
London Warriors beat Firenze Red Lions 44:34 in a high-scoring affair that raised as many questions about their defense as it answered about their offense. But one thing was clear: the Warriors running game is starting to look like a real weapon, and new signing Tyrrell Bovelle had a lot to do with it.

Bovelle makes an instant impact
It did not take long for Bovelle to show why London brought him in. The new signing gave the Warriors something they have been missing, a genuine threat on the ground who can hurt defenses both between the tackles and in space. His ability to move the line of scrimmage gave quarterback Karé Lyles options he has not always had, and the Warriors‘ offense looked more complete for it. When a team can threaten both through the air and on the ground, everything becomes harder to defend, and London are getting closer to that balance with every week.
Power and pace in the backfield
What makes the Warriors‘ ground game particularly interesting is the combination now available to head coach and staff. Bovelle brings tempo and explosiveness, while Andy Owusu offers a more physical, power-back presence. The ability to rotate between the two gives London a versatility that is difficult to prepare for, and if both backs are used effectively in the weeks ahead, opposing defenses will have a serious problem on their hands.
44 points but questions remain
London put up 44 points against a Firenze side that came into the game as the weakest scoring offense in the league, which tells its own story about how far this Warriors offense has come. They currently sit with the fourth best scoring offense in AFLE, a real statement of intent for a team that will want to be pushing higher. The defense, however, gave up 34 points to that same Firenze team, and that is a number that will concern the coaching staff. Scoring at one end is one thing. If London want to compete with the best teams in the league, they will need to be considerably tighter on the other side of the ball.
A foundation to build on
The rushing game that showed up against Firenze is the kind of foundation a winning offense can be built around. Bovelle’s arrival has added a new dimension, Lyles has the weapons around him to keep defenses guessing, and the pieces are starting to fit together. London head into Week 8 with momentum. The challenge now is proving that what they showed against Firenze was not a one-off, but a sign of what this team can consistently be.
