Rhein Fire Roll Past London Warriors in Dominant Season Opener
No signs of rust as Fire put up 43 points to make a statement in Week 1.
Final Score: London Warriors at Rhein Fire – 7:43
London Holds Early, Then It All Falls Apart
The Warriors actually started well on defense. They held Rhein Fire to just a field goal on the opening drive and stopped the second drive right at the goal line with a turnover on downs. For a moment, it looked like London might keep this competitive.
Then came the turning point. Forced to drive out of their own end zone, the Warriors gave up a safety to Rhein Fire linebacker Marius Kensy, and from that moment the game had only one direction.
Fire Offense Finds Its Rhythm
With momentum firmly on their side, Rhein Fire opened things up. Running back Jonathan Scott got going on the ground, while quarterback Kenji Bahar connected repeatedly with wide receivers Harlan Kwofie and Kaylon Geiger Sr. Big play after big play stretched the lead, and by the fourth quarter Fire were up 43 points before London put together a consolation score late on, with quarterback Karé Lyles finding Joe Hamilton to make it 7:43.
Kensy the Standout
German linebacker Marius Kensy had a complete game. Beyond the safety, he added an interception, a pass deflection, a tackle for loss, and nine total tackles. A strong individual performance in what was already a convincing team effort.
Too Many Turnovers for London
Four turnovers proved far too costly for the Warriors, who now head into Week 2 having lost both of their opening games without showing much consistency. There is work to do before they host the Alpine Rams next weekend.
Rhein Fire, meanwhile, will face a proper test in Week 2 when they take on the Vienna Vikings.
