Running back Johannes Schütz remains a Viking for 2026

The Vienna Vikings and running back Johannes Schütz will continue their journey together in 2026. Due to his existing multi-year contract, the homegrown player remains part of the team and will compete with the Vikings in their first season in the American Football League Europe.

Schütz has been wearing the Vikings jersey for four seasons and has developed into a reliable and important player for the offense.

Stepping up when it mattered most

Last season, Schütz proved his value to the team, especially during a key moment. When starting running back Karri Pajarinen was injured, Schütz stepped in and delivered strong performances. He showed that he can handle responsibility and contribute when the team needs him most.

In nine games, Schütz recorded 387 rushing yards and one touchdown on 78 carries. His physical running style and work ethic make him a dependable option in the Vikings backfield.

Offensive Coordinator Jordan Neuman also praised the development of the young running back:

“It was very impressive to see what Johannes did in his first full year playing the running back position. He is very athletic, and his experience playing wide receiver makes him a very versatile player. Combined with his work ethic, Johannes is a unique talent who can produce in many different ways. I am looking forward to working with him.”

With Johannes Schütz remaining under contract, the Vienna Vikings secure continuity, versatility, and depth at the running back position as they prepare for the 2026 season.
