Super Saturday – Three showdowns that will shape the playoff race
The AFLE enters one of its biggest weekends of the season. Week 9 features three compelling matchups, each carrying major implications in the race for the playoffs. Better yet, every game includes teams that have already shown they can compete at a high level, setting the stage for three contests that could be decided in the final minutes.

Alpine Rams vs. Berlin Thunder: Can the Rams complete the sweep?
The first meeting between these teams came in Week 2 and marked the Alpine Rams‘ historic AFLE debut. Berlin Thunder escaped with a hard-fought victory, capitalizing on penalties and mistakes while limiting the Rams despite two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Gabriel Cunningham. Since then, however, Alpine has looked like a completely different football team.
Cunningham has developed into one of the league’s most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks, consistently extending drives with both his arm and legs. The Rams‘ offense has become far more disciplined, while their defense has steadily improved under coordinator Everett Withers. Berlin, meanwhile, has also gained confidence after picking up important victories and continues to rely on its physical defense and ability to create turnovers.
Having already played once, both coaching staffs know exactly what to expect. Alpine must protect Cunningham and avoid the penalties that hurt them in the first meeting, while Berlin needs to prevent explosive plays outside the pocket. Expect another physical battle where execution in the fourth quarter could decide everything.
Vienna Vikings vs. Rhein Fire: A clash between Championship contenders
Few matchups carry more intrigue than the Vienna Vikings against Rhein Fire. Their first meeting was one of the highest-quality games of the inaugural AFLE season, with Vienna proving why it remains the league’s measuring stick.
Quarterback Ben Holmes continues to lead one of the AFLE’s most efficient offenses, distributing the football quickly and rarely putting his team in difficult situations. Rhein Fire, however, has quietly become one of the most complete teams in the league after improving on both sides of the ball over the past month.
The Fire know slowing Holmes is only part of the equation. They also need to establish their own rushing attack and control time of possession to keep Vienna’s explosive offense on the sideline. The Vikings, meanwhile, will look to maintain their balanced approach, combining an efficient passing game with timely defensive stops. With first place and home-field advantage becoming increasingly valuable, this could easily feel like a playoff game before the postseason even begins.
Paris Lights vs. London Warriors: Two improving teams meet again
The final game of next Saturday features two teams whose records may not fully reflect how much they have improved throughout the season. When Paris Lights host the London Warriors, fans can expect an entertaining offensive matchup between two sides that have found their rhythm in recent weeks.
Paris has developed into one of the league’s most resilient teams, repeatedly battling back from difficult situations and showing significant progress on offense. London has followed a similar path, building confidence behind an improving passing game and an offense capable of producing explosive plays.
The first meeting demonstrated just how little separates these franchises, and the rematch could once again come down to a handful of key possessions. Paris will try to use home-field advantage to dictate the tempo, while London must finish drives more consistently in the red zone if it wants to leave France with a crucial road victory. In a matchup featuring two evenly matched rosters, turnovers and special teams could ultimately provide the difference.
Week 9 – A Saturday no American Football fan should miss
Week 9 arrives at the perfect moment in the AFLE season. The standings are tightening, confidence is growing across the league, and every team understands the importance of each remaining game.
Whether it is the Rams seeking revenge against Berlin, the Vikings and Rhein Fire battling for conference supremacy, or the Lights and Warriors trying to keep their postseason hopes alive, this “Super Saturday” promises three games with playoff intensity.
