The quarterback who started it all
When the London Warriors made their very first player signing in AFLE history, they chose a quarterback. That decision said everything about where their priorities lay. Before the Warriors had even played a single game, Karé Lyles was the man they trusted to lead the charge. Four weeks into that journey, he has already delivered a moment that will be remembered for a long time.
A career built on resilience
Lyles did not arrive at the top of European football in a straight line. He began his college career at Wisconsin before finding his footing after a transfer to Scottsdale, where he earned First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-Western States Football League honors and established himself as one of the top quarterbacks at that level. Further stops at Southern Illinois and Jackson State followed, each one adding experience and shaping the player he would become.
When he made the move to European football in 2023, Lyles hit the ground running. He built his reputation across multiple programs, including two stints with the New Yorker Lions and stops at the Prague Lions and the Dresden Monarchs. His most recent campaign before joining the Warriors spoke for itself: 237 completions, 26 touchdown passes against just ten interceptions and six rushing touchdowns on 53 carries. A quarterback who can hurt defenses in multiple ways and who had clearly earned his shot at the biggest stage available in European football.
The weight of history
Being the first ever signing of a new franchise carries a weight that is difficult to put into words. The London Warriors are a club with a proud and successful history, and the expectation that comes with that does not disappear just because it is a new league and a new chapter. Lyles stepped into that environment knowing that every performance would be measured against what this club stands for. That is not a position for the faint-hearted.
Three weeks that tested everything
The opening three weeks of the AFLE season were not easy. Three losses, a roster still being assembled around him and a team chemistry that was very much still developing. Through it all Lyles kept producing. He finished Week 3 with 506 passing yards and five touchdowns across the opening three games, numbers that showed he was doing his part even as the results did not go the Warriors‘ way. The connection with American wide receiver Marcus Libman was growing with every game, and the pieces were slowly but clearly coming together.
The moment it all came together
Week 4 against the Firenze Red Lions was different. Lyles was at his best when it mattered most, spreading the ball to seven different receivers, picking up yards with his legs when the situation called for it and finishing with nearly 400 total yards and four passing touchdowns. It was a complete performance from a quarterback fully in command of his offense. The result was the first win in London Warriors AFLE history, and the recognition that followed was well deserved. Voted Week 4 MVP by the fans of the American Football League Europe, Lyles beat Vienna Vikings quarterback Ben Holmes in the fan vote, a result that underlines just how impressive his afternoon was.
What comes next
The reward for that breakthrough win is one of the toughest assignments the schedule can offer. In Week 5 the Warriors travel to face the Vienna Vikings, the best team in the league through four weeks and a side that has been dominant from the very first game of the season. For Lyles and the Warriors, it is a chance to find out how far this newfound momentum can really take them. After everything the first four weeks have thrown at him, Karé Lyles will not be short of motivation.
