Alpine Rams sign former NFL and CFL defensive back Ayo Oyelola
The Alpine Rams continue to strengthen their roster with another exciting addition, signing defensive back Ayo Oyelola, who brings experience from both the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the NFL.
From soccer to football
As a young athlete, he played soccer and was part of several academies, including Chelsea, Southend United, Dagenham & Redbridge, and Ebbsfleet. He later switched to American football while studying at the University of Nottingham, where he graduated with a law degree in 2020.
International pathway and pro experience
Oyelola began his football career as a linebacker before transitioning to the safety position. In 2021, he was selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL Global Draft and made his debut later that year against the Calgary Stampeders. His performances also earned him a place in the NFL International Player Pathway Program, giving him the chance to showcase his talent on a global stage.
In 2022, Oyelola signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent time on the practice squad across multiple stints through the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He later joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in September 2024 on a one-year deal, again contributing as part of the practice squad before being released in January 2025.
New chapter with the Rams
With his international experience, versatility, and strong athletic background, Oyelola now joins the Alpine Rams as another key addition to their defense heading into the new season, where he will line up alongside other strong defensive backs, including his fellow countryman Chad Walrond.
