Former Chicago Bears lineman Thomas Schaffer extends with the Vienna Vikings
The Vienna Vikings continue building their roster for the upcoming 2026 season in The League Europe. After announcing the contract extension of wide receiver Yannick Mayr, the Vikings have now secured an important piece of their defense. Defensive lineman Thomas Schaffer will remain with the team for the coming season.
The 30-year-old brings experience and stability to the defensive line and enters his third season with the Vikings
Experience at the highest level
Schaffer can look back on an impressive football career. He played college football at Stanford University before becoming part of the Chicago Bears organization in the NFL.
In addition, he gained international experience with the Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League and later with the Raiders Tirol in European professional football.
This background makes him one of the most experienced players on the Vikings roster.
Reliable presence on defense
Last season, Schaffer appeared in nine games for the Vikings. During that time, he recorded 12 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and one tackle for loss.
While his impact goes beyond statistics, his presence on the defensive line provides strength, leadership, and depth for the team.
By keeping Thomas Schaffer under contract, the Vienna Vikings secure an experienced and proven defensive player as they prepare for the challenges of the 2026 season.
