Jameson Wang named AFLE Week 1 MVP after dominant Panthers performance
The AFLE has announced its first ever Week 1 MVP, and the honor goes to Panthers Wroclaw quarterback Jameson Wang. The dual-threat signal caller edged out Vienna Vikings pass rusher Alejandro Fernandez to claim the inaugural weekly award after a stunning performance in Wroclaw’s opening weekend victory over the London Warriors.
Wang delivers a perfect performance
Wang was simply unstoppable against the London Warriors, finishing with a perfect passer rating of 158.3, throwing for 223 yards and four touchdowns, all of them to wide receiver Mike Harley Jr. He also added a rushing touchdown, accounting for five scores on the day. It was the kind of complete quarterback performance that makes a strong case for any individual award, and it was enough to take home the first MVP honor in AFLE history.
Fernandez pushes him close
Wang’s victory was not without a serious challenger. Alejandro Fernandez of the Vienna Vikings put together one of the most disruptive defensive performances of the opening weekend against the Berlin Thunder, recording three sacks including a strip sack, and three tackles for loss. The Spanish pass rusher announced himself to the AFLE in emphatic fashion and will be a name to watch throughout the season. Ultimately however, Wang’s offensive explosion proved too much to overlook.
A strong start for the AFLE
With a perfect passer rating and five touchdowns on one side, and three sacks and a strip sack on the other, the first Week 1 MVP race gave fans a glimpse of the quality the AFLE has to offer. If Week 1 is anything to go by, the debate around the weekly award is going to be one of the most entertaining storylines of the 2026 season.
