Panthers Wroclaw survive Paris Lights comeback in Week 3
The Panthers Wroclaw (2-1) bounced back in Week 3 of the American Football League Europe season with a 22–14 road win over the Paris Lights (1-1). What looked like a comfortable victory early turned into one of the most dramatic games of the young AFLE season, as Paris fought back from a 22-point deficit before the Panthers held firm in the closing moments.
Panthers offense explodes in first half
Wroclaw could hardly have asked for a better start. Quarterback Jameson Wang set the tone on the very first scoring play, breaking free for a stunning 57-yard rushing touchdown. The extra point was blocked, but the Panthers quickly extended their advantage on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Wang to Juan Flores-Calderon, followed by a successful two-point conversion.
The Panthers continued to dominate in the second quarter. Wang punched in his second rushing touchdown of the day from one yard out and added another successful two-point conversion through the air, giving Wroclaw a commanding 22–0 lead.
Paris Lights show their character
At that point, the game appeared to be heading toward a blowout. Instead, the Lights showed why they entered the week undefeated.
Paris finally found rhythm late in the first half when quarterback Evan Hillock connected with Jens Walter for a 16-yard touchdown pass. Although the two-point attempt failed, the score gave the home team a much-needed spark heading into halftime.
The momentum continued after the break. Paris added another touchdown and converted for two points, trimming the deficit to just eight points and turning the final quarter into a tense defensive battle.
Panthers QB Jameson Wang shows potential
While the Panthers offense cooled down in the second half, Wang’s early production proved to be important. The dual-threat quarterback finished with 91 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns while also throwing for 99 yards and a score.
Wroclaw also controlled the ground game, finishing with 139 rushing yards and 232 total yards of offense. Defensively, they did just enough to prevent the Lights from completing what would have been one of the biggest comebacks of the AFLE season.
Are the Panthers looking for the playoffs?
The final score may show an eight-point margin, but this game was far tighter at the end than it first appeared. The Panthers leave Paris with an important 22–14 victory and improve their position in the South/East Conference. Meanwhile, despite the loss, the Lights demonstrated resilience and fight by turning a 22–0 nightmare into a one-possession game.
For Wroclaw, the win was all that mattered. For Paris, the comeback effort may prove just as valuable as the result as the AFLE season continues. Will we see one of these two teams later this year in the post-season?
