Can Thunder QB Jakeb Sullivan beat Rhein Fire in Week 12?

Berlin Thunder enters one of the most important games of the AFLE season knowing that its offense will once again revolve around quarterback Jakeb Sullivan. Their Week 12 matchup against Rhein Fire is not just another regular-season test, it is a game that could be decided by Sullivan’s arm, decision-making, and ability to withstand pressure with the playoffs on the line.

Why the Thunder offense runs through Sullivan

The numbers make the case impossible to ignore. Sullivan has attempted 317 passes through Week 11, making him the only starting quarterback in the AFLE with more than 300 pass attempts. He also leads the league with 2,529 passing yards, while his connection with star receiver Jon Cole has become one of the most productive quarterback-wide receiver duos in European football.

That workload is not a coincidence. Berlin has become one of the most pass-oriented teams in the league, and much of its offensive identity is built around Sullivan’s ability to create explosive plays through the air.

Jakeb Sullivan makes plays under pressure

What makes Sullivan’s production even more impressive is the amount of pressure he has faced. He has been sacked 23 times in nine games, the highest total of any quarterback in the AFLE. The gap is significant: the next highest total is 17 sacks (Panthers), meaning Sullivan has taken six more sacks than any other quarterback in the league.

That statistic illustrates how much responsibility falls on the quarterback. Despite constant pressure, he has continued to produce at an elite level and keep the Thunder offense moving.

Does Thunder need to use their run game more?

This is not an argument against Berlin’s running backs or receivers. The Thunder have talented playmakers across the offense, including Cole and a capable backfield, but the team’s offensive profile shows that the passing game has been the driving force in their first nine games of the season.

If you run the numbers, Berlin has rushed for 972 yards this season, averaging just over 100 rushing yards per game. The Thunder are one of only four AFLE teams with fewer than 1,000 rushing yards after Week 11.

Even more telling is the usage of their rushing attack. Berlin has only 177 rushing attempts, the fewest in the league, and has generated just 46 first downs on the ground, the second-fewest total in the AFLE, ahead of only the Firenze Red Lions.

Those numbers do not mean the running game lacks value. They show that Berlin has relied heavily on Sullivan to create offensive production, sustain drives, and attack defenses through the air.

Why a victory against Rhein Fire will demand another big performance from QB Sullivan

Rhein Fire has the type of defense that can punish mistakes and create negative plays. Against that kind of opponent, quarterback play becomes even more important. Sullivan will need to process quickly, avoid unnecessary sacks, and continue distributing the ball to his playmakers.

The Thunder do not need Sullivan to do everything by himself. A balanced effort from the offensive line, running backs, and receiving corps will be essential. But if Berlin is going to leave Week 12 with a victory, the statistical evidence suggests that its best path is the same one that has carried the offense all season.

Jakeb Sullivan has been the centerpiece of Berlin Thunder’s offense, and against Rhein Fire, he may have to be the difference-maker once again.
