“I’m excited to have Berlin on my chest again” – Jakeb Sullivan prepares to lead Thunder offense in 2026

Berlin Thunder quarterback Jakeb Sullivan is preparing for another important season as the team enters the inaugural year of the American Football League Europe. With several years of experience at the highest level of European football, Sullivan is ready to lead the Thunder offense once again and help guide the team through a new chapter.

Experience across European football

Over the past five seasons, Sullivan has built a strong reputation as one of the most productive quarterbacks in European football. Along the way he has experienced both major successes and difficult moments, something he believes has helped shape him as a leader.

“Over the past five years I’ve been fortunate to compete against some of the best players in European football,” Sullivan said. “Every season brings its own highs, lows, and lessons, both on and off the field.”

Those experiences are something he now wants to bring into the upcoming season.

“I’m excited to use everything I’ve learned to lead by example, help those around me improve, and do everything I can to help our team win.”

Building chemistry in the Thunder offense

As the Thunder continue shaping their roster for 2026, Sullivan is confident about the players surrounding him on offense. Several key players are returning, while new additions bring additional quality to the team.

“I’m excited about the core pieces we have returning and the talent we’ve added,” Sullivan explained. “Having Bako back for a third year together is special, he’s a dynamic player and someone I’ve built great chemistry with.”

He also highlighted the continued development of other offensive weapons.

“Niklas Schumm is coming off a tremendous season, and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow that connection. Adding a familiar face like Kai Hunter, fresh off a championship, is another great piece for this offense.”

Focus on leadership and consistency

For Sullivan, his role as quarterback goes beyond throwing touchdowns and leading drives. He sees himself as someone who sets the tone for the team through preparation and mindset.

“My goal each week is simple: compete and put our team in the best position to win,” he said. “Fans can expect the same passion, preparation, and competitive fire I’ve brought over the last five seasons.”

One of the most important lessons he has learned during his career is the importance of staying composed during difficult moments.

“The biggest lesson is truly embracing the ‘next play’ mentality,” Sullivan explained. “A season has a lot of ups and downs, and individual games can feel like that same roller coaster condensed into a few hours.”

According to Sullivan, staying calm and focused is key to building consistency as a team.

“Composure is critical. I try to stay balanced and focused on the next opportunity. When a team can maintain that mindset collectively, it helps create the consistency needed to win games.”

Leading the team through preparation

Sullivan also sees leadership in everyday preparation. By focusing on details and accountability, he believes the team can continue to grow together.

“My focus is on controlling what we can control and approaching every day with a winning mindset,” he said. “Preparation, execution, and accountability are key.”

“If we can operate efficiently in our preparation, execute on game day, and then honestly evaluate and correct our mistakes afterward, that creates the consistency needed for long-term success.”

Playing for Berlin

Beyond the field, Sullivan values the connection between the team and the city of Berlin. The support from the Thunder community continues to motivate him.

“I have a lot of respect for the city of Berlin and for our fans,” Sullivan said. “The support we receive means a lot to myself and to our team, and it’s something we never take for granted.”

With the 2026 season approaching, Sullivan is excited to represent the franchise once again.

“I’m excited to have Berlin on my chest again this season and I’m looking forward to competing in front of our fans.”

As Berlin Thunder prepare for the upcoming AFLE season, their experienced quarterback will once again be at the center of the offense, ready to lead the team onto the field.
