Irish running back Tomiwa Oyewo joins the Berlin Thunder

The Berlin Thunder are continuing to shape their offensive roster. The Thunder have announced the signing of Irish running back Tomiwa Oyewo, adding another exciting piece to their backfield ahead of the 2026 season.

A reunion with a familiar face

Oyewo is not the only running back joining the Thunder from Stuttgart. Just like previously signed German running back Kai Hunter, Oyewo comes from the Stuttgart Surge, where the two formed a talented and dangerous duo in the backfield. The Berlin Thunder are hoping that partnership can be recreated in their colors.

Impressive numbers over three seasons

Oyewo has spent the last three years in the European League of Football, including two seasons with the Munich Ravens before moving to Stuttgart. Across 33 games he carried the ball 342 times for an outstanding 2,124 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns. His yards per carry average of 6.21 speaks for itself and marks him as one of the most efficient runners in European football.

A roster taking shape

With Oyewo now on board, the Berlin Thunder are building something special. A strong wide receiver group featuring American Jon Cole, Brit Lewis Kirby and homegrown players Niklas Schumm and Bais Kouanda, combined with the running back duo of Hunter and Oyewo, gives the Thunder a deep and versatile offense heading into the 2026 season.
