Panthers Wroclaw Overcome Two Possession Deficit to Move to 5-1
Discipline and a pick six prove decisive as Wroclaw come from behind to beat the Paris Lights
Final Score: Paris Lights at Panthers Wroclaw – 27:38
Lights Strike First, Panthers Struggle Early
Paris Lights came out sharp and drew first blood with a touchdown in the opening quarter. Receiver Florian Larose was a constant problem for the Panthers secondary and gave the Wroclaw defense an answer they struggled to find throughout the first half. Six penalties on the Panthers side kept interrupting their own rhythm, stalling drives and handing the Lights momentum at exactly the wrong moments.
Panthers Flip the Switch at Halftime
Whatever was said at halftime, it worked. The Panthers came out in the second half as a completely different team on the discipline front. Not a single penalty for Wroclaw after the break, while the Lights continued to hurt themselves with costly flags. On a level playing field it had been an even contest full of big plays on both sides. With the Panthers suddenly the cleaner team, the balance began to shift.
Wenzler Turns the Game in the Third
The decisive swing came in the third quarter. Lights quarterback Evan Hillock, who had been solid throughout, made the critical error when he threw a pick six that Panthers defensive back Ben Wenzler took all the way to the end zone. That momentum shift proved too much for Paris to recover from. Jameson Wang then put the game to bed in the fourth quarter with a 23-yard rushing touchdown just before the two-minute warning, his mobility once again proving a weapon the Lights had no real answer for.
What’s Next
The Panthers Wroclaw move to 5-1 and set up a massive matchup with Rhein Fire, a contest that could go a long way to deciding the North West Conference standings. The Paris Lights, meanwhile, face an equally tough task in Week 8, travelling to take on the undefeated Vienna Vikings.
