Vienna Vikings sign lockdown defensive back Marloshawn Franklin Jr.
The Vienna Vikings continue to strengthen their roster and have made a major addition by signing defensive back Marloshawn Franklin Jr. for the upcoming season in The League Europe.
Franklin will form the American defensive back duo together with Amani Dennis and is expected to play an important role in the Vikings secondary.
Strong college and NFL experience
Franklin played college football at the University of California, where he was a starting defensive back for the California Golden Bears. His strong performances in college helped him earn an opportunity in the NFL.
He later joined the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent time on the practice squad.
Journey through multiple leagues
After his time in the NFL, Franklin gained experience in several professional leagues. He played in the Canadian Football League and later in the Fan Controlled Football League, where he was named Defensive MVP.
In 2021, Franklin made his first move to Europe, joining the Hamburg Sea Devils.
Championship experience in Europe
After another period in the CFL, Franklin returned to Europe in 2024 and became part of the Rhein Fire team that won the championship.
Now, for the first season of The League Europe, Marloshawn Franklin Jr. has decided to join the Vienna Vikings and bring his experience and playmaking ability to the Austrian franchise.
High expectations from the coaching staff
Vikings head coach Chris Calaycay is excited about the new addition to his defense.
“Marlowshawn is one of those players you just have to see live. He is explosive around the ball and has the tools that we are looking for in a playmaker in our secondary. He is as versatile and physical as any DB you will see in Europe.”
