AFLE announces Homegrown territories for the first season

As the American Football League of Europe prepares for its first season, the league officially announces the Homegrown territories for the franchises that have confirmed participation so far. This announcement provides clarity and support for local talent development as each team builds its roster for competition.

What is a Homegrown player?

In AFLE, a Homegrown (HG) player is defined as an athlete whose first organized tackle football experience took place within the team’s assigned Homegrown country or region.

To qualify, the player must have completed at least two seasons of organized tackle football in the designated territory. This rule helps teams develop and showcase local talent.

Official Homegrown territories

So far, the following Homegrown territories have been confirmed:

Wroclaw Panthers

The Panthers’ Homegrown territory includes not only Poland but also the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia.

Alpine Rams

The Rams will recruit Homegrown players from Switzerland and nearby French regions along the Swiss border: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Grand Est, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.

Rhein Fire

Rhein Fire’s Homegrown territory is Germany.

Vienna Vikings

The Vikings’ Homegrown territory includes Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, and Serbia.

Berlin Thunder

Berlin Thunder’s Homegrown territory is Germany.

Paris Lights

Paris Lights will recruit Homegrown players from France.

Building a strong local future

With these Homegrown territories in place from day one, AFLE ensures a balanced and transparent foundation for player development across Europe. This system supports competitive balance while giving local athletes opportunities to grow and compete at the highest professional level.

More Homegrown territories may be announced as additional franchises confirm their participation in the league.
