Devan Burrell joins the Alpine Rams
The Alpine Rams have signed the first player in franchise history. Devan Burrell will become part of the team as they prepare for their first season in The League Europe.
The 30-year-old athlete brings a lot of experience from both the United States and Europe.
From college football to Europe
Burrell played college football in the United States for the Cerritos Junior Falcons and later for the Missouri Western Griffons. After his college career, he moved to Europe to continue playing at a high level.
Over the years, he has played for several teams, including the Allgäu Comets in the German Football League and the Leipzig Kings, Milano Seamen, Wroclaw Panthers, and most recently the Helvetic Mercenaries in the European League of Football.
A standout in the ELF
In the ELF, Burrell made a name for himself as a defensive back and especially as a return specialist. His strong performances earned him three First Team All-Star nominations. He also won the Special Teams Player of the Year award three times.
In 35 ELF games, he recorded 180 tackles, one sack, 3.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, and returned two of them for touchdowns. He also added 28 pass deflections, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Dangerous in the return game
Burrell showed his special value in the return game during the 2025 season. He returned 55 kicks for a total of 1,514 yards and scored three touchdowns. His speed and vision make him one of the most dangerous return specialists in European football.
Offensive potential
While Burrell is known for his defensive skills, he also showed his offensive ability with the Helvetic Mercenaries. He carried the ball nine times for 85 yards and one touchdown, and caught eight passes for 91 yards.
With the additional signings of American defensive linemen Lamonte McDougle and DeMarco Artis, it is expected that Burrell could take on a larger role in the offense with the Alpine Rams, while still contributing in certain situations as a defensive back.
Reunited with his head coach
In The League Europe, Burrell will reunite with his former Helvetic Mercenaries head coach, Joshua Fitzgerald. This connection could help him make an immediate impact in his new team.
With Devan Burrell, the Alpine Rams secure an experienced playmaker who can influence the game in many different ways.
