“Winning is the by-product of doing all the little things very well”: Timur Beckmann on leading the Lights offense

Timur Beckmann has been named Offensive Coordinator of the Paris Lights ahead of their first season in AFLE. An experienced coach with a strong background at multiple programs across Europe, Beckmann brings a clear philosophy, a passion for player development, and a hunger to help build something new in one of the most exciting football markets on the continent.

Paris was an easy decision

For Beckmann, the opportunity to join the Paris Lights was about much more than just a coaching role. The chance to shape the identity of a brand new team from day one made the decision straightforward.

“Being able to shape the identity, the culture, and the standard of a team and offense from day one is something that really excites me as a coach. On top of that, Paris and France have a huge potential for American football. It is a young and dynamic region with a lot of attention to sport and athletes. Being part of growing the game in a market like this, in a league that is clearly on the rise, made it a very easy decision for me.”

Beckmann also highlighted the role his existing network played in bringing him to the project. Strong connections with players, coaches, and executives across the game gave him confidence in the people around him from the start.

A process built on shared vision

The recruitment process gave Beckmann a clear sign that this was the right fit. From the very first conversations, the focus was never on formalities but on football.

“The first conversations happened relatively early, and from the beginning it was less about a job interview and more about football philosophy and vision. As the process went on, we got deeper into how we want to build the team, what kind of culture we want to establish, and what the offense should look like. That alignment was really important to me. Once it became clear that we shared the same ideas and expectations, the decision felt very natural.”

The coaches who shaped him

Beckmann has worked with a wide range of coaches throughout his career and credits several of them with having a lasting impact on how he thinks about the game. He speaks about these influences with genuine appreciation.

“I’ve been very fortunate to work with a number of great coaches throughout my career. Coaches like Andrew Weidinger, John Shoop, Paul Dunn, and Andrew Prevost had a big impact on me in terms of offensive structure and attention to detail. Others like Jim Tomsula and Bob Nielson influenced me more on the cultural side: how you build trust with players and create an environment where people are challenged but supported and can develop. I’ve tried to take something from every coach I’ve worked with, but also shape my own identity based on those experiences.”

Physical, disciplined, and adaptable

Fans of the Paris Lights will quickly get a sense of what Beckmann values on offense. His approach is built on being hard to stop, but also consistent and detailed in execution.

“My philosophy is built around being physical, disciplined, and adaptable. I want our offense to be tough to defend because we can attack you in multiple ways, but also consistent in how we execute. We are going to demand a high level of detail and accountability from our players, but at the same time put them in positions where they can play fast and use their strengths. Fans can expect an offense that plays with energy, plays with purpose, and is aggressive in the right moments.”

Building the foundation first

When it comes to goals, Beckmann is clear about what matters most in year one. For him, winning follows naturally when the right habits and culture are in place.

“The main goal is to build a strong foundation in year one. That means establishing a culture, a standard of work, and an identity that the team can rely on every week. Of course, we are competitors and we want to win games, but long-term success starts with doing the small things right every single day. Winning is the by-product of doing all the little things very well.”

On a personal level, Beckmann sees this role as a major step in his own development as a coordinator. He is hungry to grow alongside the players and the team.

“Personally, I want to do everything I can to help our players succeed and develop. That’s always the most important part of the job. At the same time, this is a great opportunity for me to grow as a coordinator. It brings everything together: leading a unit, making in-game decisions, and continuing to develop my own system. I see this as a challenge, and that’s exactly what I was looking for.”

A message for the Paris fans

Beckmann knows how much this season means for the Paris Lights and their fans. He has a clear message for everyone who will be part of this journey.

“I’m really excited to be part of bringing American football to Paris, and we are going to put a team on the field that represents the city the right way. We are going to play hard, we are going to compete, and we are going to give everything we have every time we step on the field. We will need the fans behind us, and I am confident they are going to be a big part of what we are building here.”

With Timur Beckmann leading the offense, the Paris Lights head into their first AFLE season with a clear direction and a coach who is ready to build something lasting in the French capital.
