Panthers star LB AJ Wentland to join Japan’s X League

Linebacker AJ Wentland is moving on from the Wrocław Panthers and will continue his professional American football career in Japan’s X League. After establishing himself as one of the most respected defenders in European football, Wentland leaves Poland with a message full of gratitude – and a clear signal that this may not be the end of his story with the Panthers.

From Kings leader to Panthers cornerstone

Wentland’s journey in European football has been anything but ordinary. He first made his mark with the Leipzig Kings, where he quickly became a defensive leader and one of the league’s most productive tacklers.

In 2023, he joined the Wrocław Panthers and continued to perform at a high level, becoming an important part of the defense and a strong presence in the middle of the field.

Known for his physical style, game awareness, and leadership, Wentland built a reputation as a linebacker who reads offenses quickly, controls space, and sets the tone with consistent tackling.

A heartfelt message to the fans

In his farewell message, Wentland spoke directly to Panthers fans.

“What’s up Panthers fans! AJ Wentland here,” he began, before announcing the next step in his career. “I’ve been given an incredible opportunity to continue chasing my dreams. I’ll be going to Japan this year to play in the X League!”

He made it clear how much his time in Wrocław meant to him.

“I want to say thank you to the fans for everything you’ve given me during my time here. From day one, you embraced me and made me feel at home. The energy, the love, and the support never went unnoticed.”

Gratitude to teammates and organization

Wentland also expressed special thanks to the Panthers organization and the people behind the scenes.

“I also want to give a special thank you to Mr. Tarczyński, the Tarczyński family, the entire organization, and all of my teammates both past and present,” he said. “You guys are family to me.”

His message to his Polish teammates was especially emotional: “My Polish teammates, you are my brothers.”

Not a goodbye, but see you later

Despite his move to Japan, Wentland emphasized that his connection to the Panthers and the city remains strong.

“This is not a goodbye – it’s ‘see you later.’ I love Poland, and I love Wrocław. I’m confident I’ll be back because Wrocław is my home.”

For Panthers fans, it feels less like a final farewell and more like a pause, with the door open for a possible return in the future. For now, the American linebacker will take the next step in his career and test himself in Japan’s X League in 2026.
