“Look out for some big hits”: Schürmann ready to make an impact for the Rams

After starting last season with the Helvetic Mercenaries and later joining Rhein Fire, Schürmann is now back in Switzerland and ready for a new chapter with the Alpine Rams. For him, this move is about more than just football. It is a combination of returning home and being part of a new and ambitious project.

“Obviously, it’s back home,” he said. “I can spend time with my family, my friends, and my girlfriend.”

At the same time, the decision was also strongly influenced by the vision of the Rams organization. After several attempts to establish professional football in Switzerland in the past, Schürmann believes this project could finally be different.

“But from what the coaches and the organization have shown so far, and with the players we signed, I think we are on a good track to finally do this the right way,” he added.

Building chemistry step by step

Joining a completely new team always comes with challenges, especially when it comes to building chemistry early on. For Schürmann, this process is important, but it will take time and personal interaction.

He has already been in contact with some teammates, particularly players he knows from previous seasons, but he is clear about how real connections are built.

“I’m not really a big texter,” he explained. “I’m more of an in-person type of guy. The real connection will start once we meet and work together on the field.”

With many new faces on the roster, the first practices and team activities will be key for building trust and understanding within the squad.

Excited to work with experienced coaches

Another important factor for Schürmann is the coaching staff. The Rams will be led defensively by experienced coordinator Everett Withers, a name that brings credibility and structure.

Even though Schürmann has not yet had direct contact with him, he has gathered impressions through former players and people around the game.

“I talked to people who played under him, and I’ve only heard good things,” he said. “I’m very excited to see where it takes us.”

This combination of experienced coaching and a fresh roster could play a big role in shaping the identity of the team in its first season.

Experience and versatility on the field

On the field, Schürmann brings a skill set that fits perfectly into a new and flexible defense. His experience in European football, combined with his versatility, allows him to adapt to different roles.

“I bring experience in European football and the ability to play multiple positions,” he said. “But at heart, I’m still a linebacker.”

That mindset also defines his playing style. He wants to be physical, aggressive, and impactful in key moments.

“So definitely look out for some big hits and some big plays,” he added.

Focus and goals for the season

Looking ahead, Schürmann has set clear personal goals. After dealing with distractions off the field in recent years, he now wants to fully focus on football again.

“In the past years, there were many things outside of football that I had to focus on,” he explained. “This season, I want to put all my energy into the game.”

This renewed focus was also one of the key reasons behind his decision to join the Rams, as he sees the right environment to perform at a higher level and contribute to team success.

Looking forward to familiar matchups

When looking at the upcoming season, there are already a few games that stand out for him. Facing Rhein Fire, his former team, will be a special moment.

“I’m really looking forward to that game,” he said. “I know a lot of the players, and it always feels a bit more personal.”

He also mentioned other opponents where he knows coaches and players from past teams, adding an extra layer of motivation to those matchups.

A message to the fans

As the Alpine Rams prepare for their first season, Schürmann also had a clear message for the fans in Switzerland.

“Get ready to see something you’ve never seen before,” he said. “I truly believe this is how professional football should be in Switzerland.”

With strong belief in the project and a motivated roster, he hopes the fans will be part of the journey from the very beginning.

“Be part of the history.”
